Q: What is your admissions process?
A: After completing all of the required paperwork, your child
will spend a couple of hours in class at our school. During
this time your child will be evaluated in the classroom by a
teacher. Your child will then have an interview with our Head
of School.

Q: How much will I have to pay for tuition?
A: Our school gives preference to low-income families.
Tuition is on an income-based sliding scale. On average, tuition
is approximately 5% of a family's annual income.

Q: Why is the school day/year so long?
A: Statistics show that school age children left to their own
devices are more likely to be involved in illegal activity between
the hours of 3:00 - 7:00PM. We feel that a longer school day
and a longer school year increase a student's chances for success.
The summer program also serves as a way for new students to
become acclimated to our system and as a probationary period.
For returning students, our summer program maintains their focus
on learning, and keeps students busy during months when most
other children are out of school.

Q: How long will it be
until I know whether or not my child has been accepted?
A: Most of our notification letters are sent out by May. Due
to the high volume of applicants, parents are usually notified
within two months after a visit. We give all interested families
an opportunity to be considered for admission to The East Harlem
School.

Q: What type of student are you looking
for?

we want students who have a love of learning.

Q: What happens if I miss an open house?
A: Open Houses help families to get to know our school. It is
very important that all families of applicants attend an open
house. We have approximately four open houses a year, and they
all take place after standard business hours. If you are unable
to attend one of our open houses, you must make arrangements
to visit our school during the school day.

Q: What if my application
is incomplete?
A: Your child will not be considered for admission until his
or her application is complete. It is important for families
to make contact with our admission representative to ensure
that all paperwork has been submitted.
