The East Harlem School at Exodus House is one of the only independent middle schools New York City dedicated to serving low-income families. One hundred percent (100%) of EHS families receive scholarship support, and tuition accounts for less than 5% of the School's total revenue. Whether you choose to volunteer, give to the Annual Fund, attend an event, or all of the above, you are helping our students to develop academic excellence, moral integrity, courtesy, and an unshakable commitment to their future and the fate of their community. We thank you for making our work possible.
Private donations account for ~80% of annual EHS revenue. All EHS families pay tuition (program income), an amount which is determined according to ability and on a case-by-case basis. Federal funding in support of students who qualify for free and reduced priced lunch accounts for just under 5% of income.
The East Harlem School prioritizes the efficient use of its funds and keeps its administrative costs low. The cost per student at EHS is lower than NYC public schools despite funding an extended school day and an 11 month school year. Please see below for a breakdown of EHS revenue sources.
